Jeb Bush calls for ending band on crude oil exports

Jeb Bush wants to lift restrictions on oil companies like Rice despite concerns for the environment. Oil companies have been banned since the 1970's energy crisis from exporting crude oil. Bush thinks that this goes against the American ideal of "permitting". I can see why Bush would condone this as an act of this magnitude will help lift our economy, but the damage that would be done is totally unreasonable. Jeb Bush is valuing short term profits over long term cost which is illogical.

  1. Personally, I would disagree with Jeb Bush on lifting restrictions. We should have stricter laws for environmental protection rather than destroying our environment so that these oil companies can generate a larger profit.

  2. I agree with Dilpreet. Bush, as many people often mistakingly do, is advocating destruction of the environment for human selfishness. Although the cost of gas prices will drop 6%, what is the environmental costs that will result from this repeal? If the 1970s energy crisis occurred once, it can occur once again. Lifting such restrictions will only reinforce America's dependence on other countries for resources- a dependence that is currently unnecessary.

  3. In the article, Bush was quoted saying: "“It makes no sense now", in terms of the ban on oil companies due to the 1970's energy crisis. Like Simran said, however, if it has happened before, it can definitely happen once again and cause another disaster. Environmental concern is such a huge issue now that the risk of what Bush intends to do can hinder the process. As it has been said, what doesn't make sense is prioritizing short term goals over long term goals.
