This article talks about the race for the Democratic ticket for presidency and how the hopefuls are beginning to attack each other. I think Bernie Sanders' approach in Iowa is a smart strategy. In 2008 when people believed Obama was going to lose, it was was Iowa that the caucus turned in his favor and he came out victor. Bernie reminded Iowans that they can do the same again. Hillary's ethos on women and the ability for them will definitely get her votes. Martin O'Malley the side horse in the race continues to attack both his rivals and attacked them on their policies towards gun control. I think if Sander's continues to have funds build he can take many more shots at Hillary and tighten the polls. With candidates beginning to attack and publicize the negatives of their opposition, it will be fun to see who says something or does something that will swing the pendulum of voters in their favor.
The attacks against each other will definitely create a back and forth swing of voters between the presidential candidates. However, the eventual president will not win with these frequent attacks - it's the elites that are voting and affecting the course of the electoral votes. The majority, like us, will be very well entertained by the ensuing blood bath but the people's preference for it will not affect the actual end outcome - which can be a good thing.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Sanders has realized the inevitability of Clinton's nomination if he doesn't start a ruckus. There is a lot to be said about Trump, who's seemingly rash comments has helped gain popularity. Likewise, Sanders needs people to start turning to him more instead of Clinton. The only way he could do that is through sheer popularity. In fact, all candidates should begin to consider the power of popularity: Trump's success does not need any explaining and Hillary's popularity can be traced to her support among women.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this rivalry between the two of them is definitely swinging voters but hurting the democratic party as a whole. If they do not work together to gain more voters from the moderate party, republicans will take office. They need to strengthen themselves and their appearances as democrats rather than hitting heads with each other. Although Trump is getting popularity from his comments, he is easily losing support from the extremity of what is being said.
