Marco Rubio Predicted Russia's Syria Airstrikes

In the GOP presidential debate on Sept. 15 Marco Rubio predicted Russia's move into Syria to support Assad. Russia recently launched its first attack on Syria in an area that doesn't appear to have ISIS forces. He goes on to say that Russia is trying to establish itself as a power broker in that region taking over the role of the United State. He also disagrees with Trumps position, to support Assad in order to defeat ISIS, rather he believes both need to be stopped.

  1. From this summary, I'm thinking that Russia is looking to be a dominant force once again, commensurate to when it was the USSR. It will be interesting to see how things play out with Syria/Russia/United States with a new president, and perhaps ideology, coming up in 2016.

  2. I agree with Rubio in that both parties need to be stopped. Russia is clearly playing the dominant hand in that they are seeking more world power. I do believe that Russia will conduct some force to hinder ISIS, yes, but as a whole, Russia is still in it for Russia and Russia's power. As Rubio stated: "This is about propping up Assad, who is a client state of both Iran and Vladimir Putin", no matter the outcome, Russia still comes up on top and I think that is what Rubio was trying to address.

  3. I think Rubio is right and instead of focusing on one power to stop we should be drawing our attention to both. If we lose sight of one while paying attention to the other they can become too powerful to stop in the future.
