Although Bush started off this election season at the top of the game, he has gone nowhere but downwards in his campaigning efforts and reception. Most noticeably, the article states that "the campaign is downsizing and cutting salaries in order to reduce its burn rate". Clearly, Bush is not doing as well as he used to be doing in the polls and can't seem to pull himself out of this down-trending spiral.
The article is implying that since Bush is losing support rather than gaining it, at this point in the election, he may be better off dropping out and supporting someone else with a largely similar view on varying issues: Rubio. I believe that this may be a good proposition to consider if Bush does not want someone like Trump winning the primaries. A point that the article made that led me to concur with the decision of Bush turning his support over to Rubio is that: "Rubio has the exact same policy positions as Bush — very conservative views on abortion and foreign policy, a shared passion for deficit-increasing tax cuts, and a moderate stance on immigration".
Rubio, who is cited as performing better in polls than Bush against Clinton, is seemingly gaining momentum whilst Bush is burning out of it. Personally, I think that this may be a good decision for Bush. He's not really getting anywhere with his campaign and instead of having someone (Trump) who shares conflicting views with him take the win, he can instead direct his support and sponsors towards Rubio, but I think that the sooner he decides the better it will be for both parties.

I agree with both William and the article that in order to stand up against Trump or Carson, one of the insider candidates should drop out in order to focus support on to one insider candidate. However, I don't think it matters whether Rubio or Bush drops out, as long as one of them does. The article states that Bush and Rubio share similar views, so it doesn't make sense to divide up voters between them, which may let Trump or another outsider win. Rubio does seem more charismatic than Bush, so it may be better for Bush to drop out, but I don't think it will make a huge difference which of them drops out.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is hard to say whether Bush should drop out and support Rubio. Of course this will help the establishment members of the GOP but frankly, it is still early in the election cycle. I think that Bush should still stay in the race for now and take his decreasing support as a sign to work harder. When the time comes for the primaries and no progress has been made, then perhaps it is better then to drop out and support Rubio.
ReplyDeleteI think Bush should drop out and endorse Rubio, for all the reasons mentioned before. They both share similar policies and Bush is just dividing the vote among the establishment, thus strengthening Trump's campaign. I find it very unlikely Bush will be able to come out of this downward spiral, as demonstrated by his decisions to cut funding in his campaign. Rubio, on the other hand, is gaining momentum and has a much better chance of winning a general election against Clinton, the likely winner of the Democratic primary. I believe Bush dropping out of the race would be a wise choice, and would present Trump's campaign with a much bigger obstacle.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day, it'll be one Republican candidate so staying in right now does not divide the vote. Although Bush has not had a good return on the amount of money his campaign has put in, I think he should still wait. Trump is shooting himself in the foot with his unfiltered comments and Carson's fire has been put out since the last debate. Bush still has a chance and I think it is too early to drop out.
