Carson on Abortion

This article reveals republican candidate, Ben Carson's, stance on the touchy subject of abortion. He says that "I would not be in favor of killing a baby because the baby came about in that way," citing "the many stories of people who have led very useful lives who were the result of rape or incest." Carson believes that their should be a ban on abortion in all aspects, regardless of the situation.

This view of Carson is absurd to me, because I believe that abortion should be an option for women to get to do at free will. While some feel that abortion is terrible, I think that it is something that should be readily available to a woman for any reason, like if she doesn't feel ready to bear a child, not just rape or incest. For those that disagree, I just want to say that it's a woman's body and that the government should have no control over what a woman wants to do, because it affects her and her only. Ben Carson of all people should have no say on this topic because it has nothing to do with him.

  1. I agree with Joanna. I think what a girl wants to do with her body is her choice. She should be able to exercise her freedom. Abortion is bad but in some cases the person may feel it is necessary to get rid of the child. The government should not be able to have a say with what one does with their body. If they should maybe we should start talking about piercing and tattooing our bodies and if the government should be allowed to make the choice for us.

  2. It should be the woman's right to choose what she wants to have done because it's her body. As a leader you don't have the right to tell the woman what to do. If you make abortion illegal, woman will still have abortions which will be illegal and they will use harmful methods which are really unsafe. At the end, abortion will occur no matter if you like it or not.
The other argument is that when you abort a baby, you are technically taking the life of an innocent who will never get a chance to enter the world, you are just robbing someone of their life and future. When you abort the child, a question could be why should an innocent baby pay for your mistakes? The events occurred which led to this consequence, and you can accept this.
This is a controversial issue and both sides have valid arguments according to them, but the decision should belong to the woman on what she wants to do, as no one should have the right to tell her what to do with her body.

  3. Here's a question: Is it the woman's right to choose what she wants to do with a baby's life? Does our mother still have the right to do whatever she wants with our lives? That's the side conservatives are seeing and it's not that absurd. If the woman wasn't "ready" for a child, she should have practiced safe sex. She can still put the child up for adoption as well. However, with rape it becomes extremely difficult but in the end it's still not really the "woman's body." A human being inside a human being does not mean they are one body - they are still two separate bodies, one of the mother and the other of the baby.

  4. Once a baby is born, republicans like Ben Carson no longer have any interest in the person. Republicans only seem to care about a baby when it is a fetus. Obviously he doesn't care about people, if he did he would be more concerned about the rape or incest victims leading healthy lives.

  5. I disagree with Ben Carson's view on abortion. Women should be allowed to abort their baby if they are not ready to support it or if a women has become pregnant as a result of rape. I cannot imagine how a women would be able to give birth to a child if that child was a result of rape. As a neurologist running for presidency, I would advise Ben Carson on changing his views or restraining himself from displaying his opinions on certain social issues. Carson is already at a disadvantage since he has no political experience.
