Clinton goes on the attack over voting rights in Alabama

In this article, Clinton emphasizes her disapproval of the voting laws in Alabama. She claims that the new laws of requiring a photo ID to vote and the closings of driving licensing offices in mostly black area were enacted to hinder the votes of people of color and youths. However, in response to this, Alabama's governor and other political leaders, say that the reason for the closings were not for a political agenda but rather to reduce costs. After much criticism, the Alabama legislature agreed to at least open the driving licenses offices, the ones that were closed, once a month, but Clinton does not believe that this is not enough.
I agree with Clinton in that the new voting laws were made to stymie the votes of blacks since Alabama is a Republican state that has a long history of discrimination against people of color. Blacks would generally vote for Democratic Party, so I think that the closing of driving licenses offices in black areas is just a way to make sure that Democratic candidates do not win in political elections. I think that Clinton is right and that we need to make sure that everyone has an equal chance to vote.

  1. I can see how Alabama is trying to hinder the black vote through photo identification requirements. It's unbelievable how colored people still have to face this sort of oppression that began in the Reconstruction Era.

  2. It is sad that colored people still have to deal with discrimination even after laws have been passed allowing them to vote. The closing of driving licensing offices in Alabama shows us how certain southern states are still trying to prevent the blacks from voting.

  3. I think it's ridiculous that we still have to be concerned over discrimination in the US. Alabama doesn't look good even with the concession they made. They are going to have to be really careful now that the spotlight is on them. Although Clinton is influential we need someone with current political power to take action.

  4. I think we have come too far to have the blacks battling the same struggle they consistently face. This oppression never seems to end even though we have passed laws trying to combat it.

  6. This was probably the most shocking of articles. There definitely should not be any restrictions on blacks especially in 2015. It is so sad that peoples morality did not improve over time and people still do not see the faults in their actions.

  7. Like others have already expressed their disapproval of Alabama's actions to shut down these drivers' license offices in 75%+ black neighborhoods, I also think that it's unbelievable this is still taking place in 2015. Had the media and Hillary not bring it to light, things like this would continue to go on underneath our noses.
