As the article states, the possibility of Joe Biden running for president makes the Democratic primaries much more undecided, and to me, much more interesting. As of now, the two main candidates of the Democratic presidential primaries are Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, with Clinton having a somewhat large lead. The article tells us, however, that if Biden enters the race he will also be a large contender, and will draw voters away from Clinton. I think that if Biden does decide to enter the race, and according to the article it seems as if he is preparing to do so, then this will make the race much more competitive. If he enters than Clinton will be weakened. This will change the race from one where there are two real candidates with a chance, and one largely leading, to a race between three candidates who are more equally well supported. It seems as if Biden's entry into the race will give Bernie Sanders a much better chance, possibly giving him a victory, as some of Clinton's supporters leave her for Biden.

I agree with Jeremy, the question of whether Joe Biden will run for president in this upcoming election does make the election much more interesting but also makes the polls unclear to read. Biden, with the experience of vice president for 8 years, has a strong presence in the election that he is still undecided for. However, I believe his indecisiveness may hurt him as there are only a few weeks left for campaigning and he hasn't announced his decision as of yet. If he does join and manages to take votes away from other candidates, I believe it would be from all candidates and not just Clinton. Hillary is still leading the polls by nearly twice as much of Sanders' numbers according to Real Clear Politics, while Joe Biden is ranked third. I still believe Clinton will have a strong chance of winning even if Biden officially joins the race.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a few months since rumors of Biden's possible campaign has started, but nothing has been officially announced yet. He definitely has the support if he wishes to run for POTUS, but it does make it a tough race, because while there are a large number of Republican candidates that would all be terrible in the executive seat, there are (as of right now) two great candidates what would both do an okay job as president. Biden entering the race now, no matter how popular he is, will give him a large disadvantage to his possible rivals. He will take voters away, I believe mainly from Hillary as opposed to Bernie. Bernie's supporters are as steadfast as he is in his stance on several of his policies. According to CNN's articles on the debate "winners", Hillary and Bernie stayed civil and true, and Joe Biden's possible entry as a last-second winner suffered as Clinton's popularity spiked. One thing's for sure: the 2016 presidential campaign is definitely full of surprises, so Biden's opportunity is still there for the taking.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Jeremy in that if Joe Biden decides to enter the presidential race then Sanders will have a "much better chance, possibly giving him a victory, as some of Clinton's supporters leave her for Biden." If Joe Biden does finally decide to join the race, then he will take both supporters from Sander's campaign and Clinton's campaign. Both of their numbers will drop and seeing that Clinton currently has double digit lead against Sanders, she will still being winning the election.

I don't think that Joe Biden's campaign will pose a big threat to Clinton or Sanders. Biden has never really been an aggressive fighter for anything -- if you read my post from last week, even his efforts as VP for stricter gun control have been fruitless because of his inability to fight hard enough for it. The bill just died on the Senate floor. If he hasn't been able to show that he can carry out something he is so passionate about, I doubt that he will be able to campaign vigorously enough to show the American people that he cares enough about the presidential election and that he really wants it. I think the very fact that he still hasn't made a clear decision about whether or not to run for the presidency is already a sign.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Simran's comment 100%, because Biden's entering in this race will definitely affect the numbers of not just Hillary and Bernie, but all the other candidates. With his presence if he is to join, the polls and numbers for all members will be affected and in turn, Hilary will probably prevail on top because of all the support she has already garnered. In comparison to her competition, she will probably lose the most in number of supporters but will still remain on top due to the sheer number of people she has on her side vs. the supporters of other candidates.
