Donald Trump, upon losing his lead in Iowa according to new polls, said "I honestly believe those polls are wrong", even though he has been constantly citing the polls throughout this race to show how much everyone loves him. Trump's hypocrisy is amusing to watch, and I hope that this will have a ripple effect, lowering his polling scores in other states too. While I don't believe that this one time being second in the polls will have a huge effect, it may make voters slightly less likely to choose Trump. Trump, according to the article, now has a new favorite candidate to attack, Ben Carson, because he has taken Trump's spot int he Iowa polls. Previously Trump has focused his attacks on Jeb Bush, saying that Bush has little energy, now he is using the same insults on Carson, hoping to make Carson falter like Bush is faltering now. Even though it seems a bit unlikely, I hope that this is a precursor for further losses for Trump.

Although amusing, it is strange that Trump has lost so much support in Iowa. His numbers have been fluctuating throughout the past months, but he is regaining support as of right now. Therefore I wouldn't necessarily foresee many future losses as this one. Nevertheless, his reaction to his decrease in poll numbers show Trump for what he truly is- a sore loser, ironic because he states he is exactly the opposite. Instead of professing beneficial plans for the future to gain supporters, he is dwelling on polls conveying his losses. Trump's inability to accept decrease in support and retaliation through denial shows his incompetence as a leader.
ReplyDeleteThough most of the candidates are playing their cards close to their chest, Trump openly antagonizes both the Democrats and Republicans. It's amusing, but also terrifying. He makes for a good headline in a news article, or a punchline on the Jimmy Fallon show, but as leader of our country? Terrifyingly incompetent. Polls are never a precursor for the outcome of an election, and throwing insults at his successor is never a smart move. Trump is a sore loser, but Carson (even if he wins Iowa) has even less of a chance than Trump. The GOP is made up of a bunch of misguided individuals, and while it's sad and amusing, if the Republicans do end up winning the 2016 presidential race, it bodes bad news for the state of our nation.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Simran in that Trump is acting like a sore-loser. Polls are made to give an idea about how much each candidate is resonating with the people of that state. To deny the accuracy of the polls because he is not winning is quite laughable to be honest. Nonetheless, he is now aiming at taking Carson down because "apparently" Carson is better received there than Trump is. If Trump is not first, he will not accept the outcome.
ReplyDeleteTrump's popularity and success has been declining over the past few weeks. However, it is a reality that polls do not always accurately reflect the results of the elections. Despite Carson winning Iowa, I doubt that Carson's campaign will make any further progress. I think Trump will continue to be the leading figure of the anti-establishment. The fact that he attacked Carson after losing Iowa demonstrates that Trump doesn't realize Carson's success in Iowa probably won't launch him into the lead.
ReplyDeleteEven though Trump's popularity has declined in Iowa, he is doing fairly well in the polls everywhere else. Carson on the other hand should not take his recent success in beating Trump in the polls lightly as Trump should not be underestimated. I think it is immature of Trump to be dwelling on the the decline in polls because it looks bad for his image and he should have used that opportunity to mock congratulate Carson or use it to his advantage that would gain him popularity. However I feel that the general public is gradually starting to become weary of his antics and flimsy plans to make America better.
ReplyDeleteDonald Trump seems to be more disappointed because he was confident and assumed that he could never lose. However, this seems to be a shock to Trump, which made him take jabs at even Ben Carson's religion. However, the fact that this Iowa poll may not really make that of a great difference to his candidacy, Trump is just making himself be seen in negative light by denying it. He always tells America that we shouldn't be losers. However, he himself is being a sore loser and he is showing an unstable mindset. He seems to not be able to take failure well.
