In this article, Trump states that he would consider closing mosques in the U.S to make sure Muslims do not pose a threat to American security. Even though, I believe that ISIS is a dangerous organization that needs to be stopped, I don't agree with Trump that closing of mosques is the answer because ISIS is run by a few radical Muslims who do represent the moral character of all Muslims. Therefore, I do not think that innocent Muslims in the United States should be punished and not allowed to practice their religion in response to the bad behavior of others. However, if discovered that a mosque is being used as place for plotting and storing of weapons, I think that governmental action is needed to shut down these radical Muslims for security reasons.

I think that this is a bit ridiculous. Closing down mosques of innocent Muslims would be disrespectful and cause significant controversy. I agree, however, that if the mosques were under credible suspicion of being involved in terrorist organizations, such as ISIS, then government should absolutely shut it down, as Marcy said.
ReplyDeleteThis is an example of another radical idea from Donald Trump. Mosques should not be closed in a country where anyone can worship any religion just because of radical Muslims in the east. However, if certain mosques have affiliations with ISIS or the intent to inflict terror on the American people then I see no problem with the American people closing down these mosques.
ReplyDeleteTrump is infringing on one of the central freedoms that makes America what it is - the freedom of religion. His generalization that all Muslims pose a threat to national security and must not be allowed to practice their religion is not only ridiculous but also extremely offensive. By closing down mosques, Trump would actually be putting America in more of a danger than it already is in, angering radical Muslims by giving America a reputation on the world stage as a nation that hates Islam and does not tolerate it.

ReplyDeleteAlthough Trump's idea is being spread on the news and people support what he is saying, this idea would never happen. This statement goes against freedoms given to all American people. Trump's comment will cost him votes because it shows his prejudice along with the fact that he obviously knows nothing about what is legal in the US.
ReplyDeleteAs Trump threatens to close mosques he poses the stereotype that all Muslims are dangerous and threaten national security. He is also, therefore, taking away the right of people to practice their religion due to his own reservations.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Trump wants to close down mosques with innocent Muslim worshippers - it would decrease his poll numbers dramatically if people see he wants to infringe on basic constitutional rights. He probably means mosques that are suspect of involvement in ISIS activity - this is a no-brainer. Any facility carrying out illegal activities should definitely be suspended or shut down.
